IL SOLE - An avant-garde gallery

The exhibition at the city museum Bruneck/Brunico presents a retrospective about the Galleria IL SOLE, a vanguard gallery that with its intense exhibition activity from 1970 until 1995 was an important centre of cultural life at Bozen/Bolzano. In the 70ies and 80ies the gallery from Marcello Bizzarri hosted works of art from the most important artists from the Italian experimental tendencies. Thereunder Enrico Castellani, Giuseppe Uncini, Piero Dorazio, Lucio Fontana, Giulio Paolini, Alberto Burri, Osvaldo Licini, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Fausto Melotti, Emilio Vedova and lots of others international well known artists.

The 250 exhibitions organized at the gallery, gave a lot of people a remarkable and an unforgettable possibility to get in touch with abstract and conceptual art, but also to see performances, to be present at artist’s conversations or to experience electronic music. This made the Galleria IL SOLE to a real avant-garde gallery.
