Elmar Peintner is one of the internationally recognized contemporary artists from Tyrol. The numerous invitations to exhibitions inAustria, Europe and overseas, as well as important recognition from international Biennials of Graphic Arts inItaly,Belgium,Poland,Germany,Sweden,Czech Republicand theUSconfirm the rising esteem of the artist.

He was born in Zams (Oberinntal,Tyrol) and discovered the vast possibilities of drawing rather soon. Drawing, together with printmaking, became the centre technique of his work. From 1974 to 1979, he studied at theAcademyofFine ArtsinViennain the master class for graphic art of professor Melcher. In the following years he attended an intensive course for lithography in St. Gallen and participated in a study visit inJapanat the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. He now lives and works in Imst (Oberinntal,Tyrol).

First, Elmar Peintner practiced filigree pencil studies about plants, rock, bark, trees, moss and leaves and tried, by microscopical approach to nature and its fineness, to glance at the secrets of the inner structure. Hereby he laid the groundwork for his later work with its wide-ranging content.

In the 90’s his work changed: objects of his world of life are now depicted either depending on each other or contrasting. Clean-cut objects with an intensive internal structure, creatures and puppets on strings, human beings and animals are present in their individuality. Spaces are marked by disorientation. In this no man’s land, where every sense of time is lost, anything can be possible.

The solo exhibition in the City Museum of Bruneck shows a cross-section of the fascinating printed artworks and the complex pencil drawings on paper and canvas.
